The 5-Day Samburu – Ol Pejeta – Nairobi safari heads north into a genuinely different side of Kenya, away from the more heavily visited southern circuit. Samburu National Reserve is known for its dry, rugged terrain and a set of rare northern species found almost nowhere else in the country — Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, and Beisa oryx, often called the “Samburu Special Five.”
From Samburu, the route continues to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a leading sanctuary for wildlife conservation and home to the world’s last two northern white rhinos, alongside the Big Five and the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only place in Kenya to see rescued chimpanzees. Travel throughout is in a private 4×4 safari vehicle with a professional driver-guide, priced for groups of 2 to 6 travelers sharing one vehicle.
Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), you'll be met by our representative, who will assist you and begin your journey north to Samburu National Reserve, a drive of roughly 6–7 hours by road.
On arrival, you'll check in and relax at your lodge or camp, with an optional evening game drive available, time permitting, to catch your first glimpse of Samburu's striking, rugged landscape.
Full-board lodge in the heart of Samburu's striking, rugged landscape.
After an early breakfast, you'll spend the full day on game drives across Samburu's beautiful, dry terrain. The region is known for rare northern species rarely seen elsewhere in Kenya — Grevy's zebra, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, and Beisa oryx, often collectively called the “Samburu Special Five.”
You'll return to the lodge for lunch partway through the day before continuing your exploration of the reserve, with dinner and overnight back at your lodge.
Overnight again at Samburu Sopa Lodge.
After breakfast, you'll depart for Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a drive of roughly 3–4 hours. Ol Pejeta is a leading sanctuary for wildlife conservation and home to the world's last two northern white rhinos.
You'll arrive at your lodge in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive. You may also visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only place in Kenya to see rescued chimpanzees living in a protected environment.
Full-board camp within the conservancy, close to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary.
Today is dedicated entirely to exploring Ol Pejeta, with morning and afternoon game drives across the conservancy. Ol Pejeta offers excellent chances to see the Big Five, alongside endangered species such as black rhino.
Optional activities are available at an additional cost, including lion tracking, horseback safaris, or a night game drive — each offering a different way to experience the conservancy beyond the standard game drive.
Overnight again at Maisha Sweetwaters.
After breakfast, you'll check out and begin the drive back to Nairobi, a journey of roughly 4–5 hours.
On arrival, you'll be transferred directly to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to connect with your international departure, bringing your northern Kenya safari to a close.
