Samburu, Lake Nakuru & Maasai Mara — 10-Day Kenya Wildlife Safari

This 10-day wildlife safari is built around genuine depth at each of Kenya’s premier destinations, rather than rushing between them. The route begins in Samburu National Reserve, a genuinely different side of Kenya, set against semi-arid savannah and the Ewaso Nyiro River, home to rare northern species found almost nowhere else in the country — Somali ostrich, gerenuk, Grevy’s zebra, beisa oryx, and reticulated giraffe, often called the “Special Five.”

From Samburu, the route continues to two full days at Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for tree-climbing lions, Rothschild’s giraffes, and both black and white rhinos, before concluding with three full days in the Maasai Mara — including real chances at the Great Migration between July and October — and a relaxing final stop at Lake Naivasha. Travel throughout is in a private 4×4 land cruiser, priced for groups of 2 to 6 travelers sharing one vehicle.

Trip Highlights

Trip Itinerary

You've been dreaming of your safari for so long, and now it's finally about to begin. You'll meet your guide, who will tell you everything you need to know to get your safari started.

Nairobi could just be East Africa's most exciting city, thanks to its buzzing nightlife, well-regarded restaurant scene, and excellent shopping — more than just a gateway to the parks elsewhere in the country.

Overnight

Included
Argyle
Nairobi, Kenya

A comfortable base in Nairobi for your arrival night, on a bed and breakfast basis.

We think you'll fall in love with Samburu National Reserve at first sight. It's a fantastic reserve that doesn't get the crowds you sometimes see in Kenya's south. The reserve is well-stocked with predators, including lion, leopard, cheetah, and hyena, with sightings of elephant, giraffe, hippo, and zebra also common.

It's a chance to see northern species that are hard to find elsewhere, including Somali ostrich, gerenuk, Grevy's zebra, beisa oryx, and reticulated giraffe. An evening game drive rounds out the day — one of the best times to see the animals as temperatures cool and the light turns soft.

Overnight

Included
Samburu Sopa Lodge
Samburu National Reserve, Kenya

Full-board lodge set against Samburu's semi-arid savannah and the Ewaso Nyiro River.

A full-day game drive at Samburu National Reserve is an unforgettable experience that offers a deep dive into Kenya's wild and rugged north. Set against a backdrop of semi-arid savannahs and the Ewaso Nyiro River, Samburu is a hidden gem teeming with rare and iconic wildlife.

Unlike more crowded parks, Samburu offers a more intimate safari — fewer vehicles, stunning light for photography, and a raw, untamed feel.

Overnight again at Samburu Sopa Lodge.

You'll be visiting Lake Nakuru National Park, and it's a brilliant park to visit. When it comes to wildlife, there are tree-climbing lions, endangered Rothschild's giraffes, and flamingos in varying numbers on the lake — this is also one of the best parks in Kenya for seeing both black and white rhinos.

It's a beautiful park too, with amazing views from the Out of Africa Lookout, waterfalls, acacia woodlands, and pretty lake panoramas. An evening game drive brings the day to a close, when both predators and prey are most active.

Overnight

Included
Lake Nakuru Lodge
Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya

Full-board lodge close to the park, well placed for both morning and evening game drives.

A full-day game drive at Lake Nakuru National Park is a vibrant blend of wildlife, birdwatching, and breathtaking scenery, all in one compact, easily navigable park. Lake Nakuru itself is the centrepiece of the park, once famous for its millions of flamingos.

While flamingo numbers vary based on water levels, you can still see large flocks of pelicans, storks, and other waterbirds — the park is a birdwatcher's paradise with over 400 species recorded, ideal for those wanting a diverse safari experience in a single day.

Overnight again at Lake Nakuru Lodge.

Welcome to one of the best safari destinations in Kenya. Here in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, you're almost certain to see lions, hyenas, hippos, elephants, giraffes, wildebeest, buffaloes, impalas, and zebras, not to mention the more than 500 species of birds recorded here.

There's also a good chance you'll encounter leopards and cheetahs, while you might also see black rhinos in the Mara Triangle. The landscape of vast savannah grasslands with flat-topped acacia trees is unmistakably iconic.

Overnight

Included
Mara Sweet Acacia
Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya

Full-board camp within reach of the Mara's open plains and abundant wildlife.

A full-day game drive in the Maasai Mara is the ultimate African safari experience. From sunrise to sunset, you're immersed in one of the most iconic wildlife landscapes on the planet, famous for the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino.

You'll also encounter huge herds of zebra, wildebeest, and gazelle, especially during the Great Migration between July and October. A full day in the Mara is more than a safari — it's a front-row seat to nature's greatest show.

Overnight again at Mara Sweet Acacia.

Another full day exploring the heartbeat of the wild. This is the land of the big cats — lions bask in the morning sun, cheetahs scan the horizon, and sometimes you'll spot a leopard draped across a tree, half-hidden in the leaves.

As the sun begins to drop, golden hour arrives, and the Mara transforms again. The light turns warm, the shadows grow longer, and the air fills with anticipation — predators hunt, scavengers linger, and the drama of survival plays out right before your eyes.

Overnight again at Mara Sweet Acacia.

You're almost guaranteed to see hippos when you visit Lake Naivasha, the highest of Kenya's Rift Valley lakes at 1,884m above sea level.

You might also see zebras and giraffes close to the shore of the lake, a genuinely relaxed close to your ten-day circuit before the final drive back to Nairobi tomorrow.

Overnight

Included
Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge
Lake Naivasha, Kenya

Full-board lakeside lodge, a relaxed final stop with easy access to the boat jetty.

We'll leave very early in the morning after breakfast for your drive back to Nairobi, approximately one and a half hours away, where you'll be dropped back to your hotel or airport for departure.

As your safari journey comes to an end, we just want to say what an absolute pleasure it's been to share these wild and wonderful days with you — from early morning game drives to golden sunsets over the savannah, each moment has been part of your story.

Trip concludes today — no overnight stay.
